The New Direction of Microsoft?

Interesting Microsoft boo boo

This is interesting, in reaching new areas, on the one hand people laud about how Xbox is giving PSP fits....

But this is the real result ;)

More About Zune

Apprently it is apple proof.

Will the smaller boys hurt?

Hell no.

Its the big boys that will hurt.

First anyways.

Ozzie declares end to PC era

Preach it!!

duh!

old news....

Micrrosoft RSS Creative Commons

Officials said the company is proposing its own Simple List extensions to RSS that will better allow the technology to support ordered lists of information. Presently, RSS feeds are sent and received as streams of messages with their order being determined only by the time they were sent. Microsoft's extensions are reportedly offering a way to add ordering information so RSS feeds can more intelligently handle, for instance, a Web site's list of best-selling items.

MS is rarely benevolent.... tread carefully.....

Watch this carefully.. see if the so called creative commons codes require proprietary libraries... watch the small print ;)

MS Word has a bug

"But as knowledge of the Word flaw has spread, researchers like Ullrich fear that it may be used in a more widespread attack. The vulnerability can be exploited to run unauthorized software on PCs, although users must first be first tricked into opening a maliciously encoded Word document."

Security Token Service (STS) Relay Service Microsoft

an excerpt:

"STS is an online identity-management service that enables users to register personal information on a virtual information card using Microsoft's authentication service, code-named InfoCard. After signing up for STS, when users visit a site that is InfoCard-enabled, they can sign in to the site using information stored in the virtual card, according to Microsoft."

Microsoft Vista is here

BETA of course =P

Gates stressed that virtualization is a key focus for Microsoft, which has been building out its portfolio to compete with pure-play virtualization companies such as VMWare Inc. and XenSource Inc.

Zune Versus iPod and where is the Zen ppl???

Well old news actually... as always =P

its hard to keep up to date with the news and my strength has waned alittle after my exams =P

Anyways the Zune was announced online for quite awhile, but just recently announced in the Singapore media.

no links today, but just my view.

I think the Zune is important.

Very important. Why?

It does what Creative cannot do.

Maybe Steve Jobs thinks he can bring the opposite bank to him while Creative has to wade through the water.

But you know what?

What Steve can do, Bill can do too (I dunno about better ;P)

Point is?

Microsoft has enough muscle both financially and technological (style would be hard, but since when has that stopped the blue giant.. opps that used to be IBM no?) to put a dent in Apple's dominance.

Remember we have been through this before. Except Apple is no longer the minnow, but how has Apple/Macintosh survived all this while.

Niche.

Fanbase.

The hardcore Mac users kept Apple alive for Steve Jobs to kickstart.

Hey miracles happen in an instant, but it happens because there was a faithful following, just like revolutions, (or God if you are feeling spiritual =P).

You know what? Creative is waiting in the wings for a miracle.

And it can happen.

Why?

cos its Creative ;)

Zune will kick open the market and break the vice like grip of Apple on the mpeplayer market.

You know how to spot the change?

When you start calling mp3players mp3players rather than ipod.

And yah Creative will survive, mabbe not take over the market like it so boldly challenged. But it will survive. And Zune's move will only make its presence stronger =)

Aggregation of online Businesses

Is this what it is really about. Maybe big online businesses can pull it off. The odea is not new.

Call to the other big players in other countries. Do the math, link up and aggregate your local business, before Ebay buys up every last one of them. You still have first mover advantage and more importantly critical mass as well as more current and indept + relevant market info.

Alan Kay and the $100 Laptop

$100 Laptop

The $100 laptop is an education project for creating an inexpensive laptop computer intended to provide every child in the world access to knowledge and modern forms of education.

The computers will be rugged and Linux-based. Ad-hoc wireless mesh networking may be used to allow many machines Internet access from one connection. The pricing goal is currently expected to start at around US$135–140 not hitting the US$100 mark until 2008, if then. The laptops will be sold to governments and issued to children by schools on a basis of one laptop per child.

Microsoft to drop Win FS

Rather outdated news... 28th of June.... but felt i should put it on the blog

The BlackBerry clone war begins

hehe For those interested in the wireless communications market =)

Incidentally we are looking at Black Berry as a technology in the coursework for MTECH.

Now looking at the article in more detail, I feel that the entire move by Nokia and Motorola is a little moronic.

More studies should be done to see if email can be done cheaper. We are talking about the internet here... hello?

IM is key in telecomms. Unless the email can be done at instant speed always on. Unless it can surpass its value on a desktop/laptop. Why would email become dominant. More should be done to see if a "different" kind of email can be formulated. (Which will probably be some varient of IM anyway).

Until you can get the same level of quality on a PC. I do not see this taking off. And even if you do. At what cost? There is a reason why the corporates are the dominant market. The technologists are the ones that are gonna make this work. Not the marketeers.
