Something on Storage (plus RAID)

http://www.acnc.com/04_01_01.html

nice raid explanation ... probably a book is still
better with the details and all.

But a picture does say a thousand words.

So thats a few thousand words added to what you read
in your textbook! Just like that! =D

Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redundant_array_of_independent_disks

This is a little dated, but I thought the thought
process was useful, and somethings you do not learn...
no not even from the aforementioned picture =)

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/building_budget_storage_server/

How dated?

This article was talking about 2 TB...

The latest offerings from HP:

48TB max internal

Still DELL seems to only offer 2TB max internal....

Fedora 10

Cool.. did you know Fedora is now on 10.....

actually if you are an open source aficionado you 'd probably know =P

I just found out, cos my sis wanted me to help her download...

its been so long.... The first time I used it it was Fedora 2!!!

The last time I used it it was Fedora 9 but I had to use 8 because, I could only burn CDs and they had some weird DVDs only... the CD isos were maintained by an affiliated but not main group apparently ....

Good to see the change!

Oh BTW the isos are hosted by NUS!!! thats a great way to get your university known to academia NUS, incase you did'nt know ;)

And that would be the first useful thing you did for me as an alumni.. instead of always asking me to donate lol

Zone Alarm 15th Anniversary Giveaway: A Review

Well the below was quite awhile ago...

Just to kinda review....

ZA has definitely improved

The old ZA I used use to lock my entire machine, the reason was it was the first application to load and it screen EVERYTHING else.

This makes sense from a security stand point but is bollocks in terms of usability.

Not surprisingly it was the next thing I CLEANED from my comp ;)

But this new one is rather nice. Same old comp but much better performance from the desktop firewall =)

Also they are running something called defensenet. Where they collect daily, your system specs.

I opted out.

I do know what they are trying to do and it is not malicious.

They are likely to be doing either datamining or some form of trend analysis.

Which is a good thing =)

Still I was more concern about the load. If it were a weekly load i would be more willing. =D

Overall usability wise definitely not bad and the load is not too heavy.

Why Should One have a desktop firewall?

Say you get infected by trojans? The firewall actually allows you to lock down your out going connections, it also allows you to block incoming connections from outside, nefarious or not ;) Oh btw Singnet is still scanning.

CLIPS new URL

Well not really an opensource entry ... more like an update.

But hey! CLIPS is an open source thingie =)

So just to inform that CLIPS has changed its URL to

http://clipsrules.sourceforge.net/ .. also the link on this site has been updated to reflect that =)

This was the post by the current maintainer Gary Riley

http://clipsrules.sourceforge.net/ is the current URL. It was http://www.ghg.net/CLIPS/CLIPS.html until this year and then before that http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/~clips/CLIPS.html. If I enter CLIPS into google it's the number 1 hit.

I think its for the better =)

Being on sourgeforge it is likely to be better maintained and more structured and have more exposure.

Its good to see the .NET port of CLIPS now on a "proper" kinda fork. All good.

Keep up the good work folks ;)
